Cottages and Grounds at Torridge House Cottages, Little Torrington,
Devon EX38 8PS
All, except Courtyard Cottage, are set in the gardens and grounds of Torridge House, an old rectory.
Courtyard, is the village end of Torridge House and rather than opening onto the gardens, it opens to its own patio courtyard and to Torridge House’s main cobbled yard.
Directions on how to reach us are emailed before arrival and guests are met on arrival, shown into their cottage and around the grounds and facilities.
Plans are in hand for floor plans. A site plan is available.

Parking for The Drawing Room is in the main cobbled yard. There is a gated path to the front door going around between Lin Cottage and the side of he Drawing Room Cottage.
Duck, Hen and Stag Cottages have a gravelled car park in the grounds nearby the cottages, but there is close access to the cottages for loading and unloading on arrival and departure and as needed.
Parking in this area is restricted to limit vehicle movements for the safety of the children staying.
Tithe Cottage is nearest to the parking area.
Torridge House Cottages has two entrances. The main one is into the cobbled yard in front of Torridge House. The second is an unmarked, unmade-up lane leading down to 7 of the cottages.
Facilities at Torridge House include:-

A reading room with games and maps.

A playroom with a sand pit and home area and other toys.

A games room with table tennis, pool table, table football, junior air hockey & children's pool table.

An outside wc and hand washing facilities are in the animal feed room next to the games room.

All cottages have dishwashers, the 4-star cottages, plus Barn, Tithe and Courtyard Cottages have washing machines and tumble driers. There is also a laundry with 2 washing machines and 2 tumble driers in the grounds for the other cottages. Laundry tablets and conditioner are freely available.

Over the shoulder lights are available on request.

A highly qualified massage, aromatherapy, Reiki etc therapist, farmhouse studio & in cottage.

Outdoor heated swimming pool and games room as above. Daily animal feeding on the small farm. The pool is 1.5m at the deep end and is not deep enough for diving.

Large open plan gardens, set mainly to grass, some level others sloping and uneven in places.

Paths and lanes are concrete, gravel or earth/stone – some of the latter are uneven in places.

Most of the garden paths have sound concrete surfaces, but some are gravelled, though generally well smoothed down by years of use. Some other paths have irregular surfaces where there are outcrops of bedrock! (We are at the top of a hill, and because of this the ground slopes in places).
Access to one of the animal houses is down a fairly steep slope.
Cottage details a summary:-

Drawing Room has one bedroom with a double bed and 2 single beds. There is a four poster king bed in the big living room.There is a 3cm high sill to the front door, and a 5cm high threshold into the bathroom. The bathroom has a corner bath and a walk-in shower (with one step up) the shower cubicle will take a plastic chair. All rooms, the big living room, bedroom kitchen and bathroom are on all one level, ground floor level.

Tithe Cottage has 3 bedrooms. Downstairs is a super king with an adjacent shower room.There is a step into the shower, which has plenty of room for a plastic chair. Upstairs is a double and a twin with a bathroom. Threshold step to front door, this door is wider than other front doors. There are french windows to the sitting room, these also have a threshold step. Please note that the door to the downstairs bedroom, the hall leading to it and the shower room door have a width of 29".

Duck Cottage has a twin bedroom and a shower room downstairs, and upstairs a super king, a king with an ensuite, one twin room and a family bathoom. The showers have standard shower doors, with room for a plastic chair on the standard shower trays. Light switches are at 1.2m or lower. Sockets are meet 2006 regulations.The French windows to the kitchen/dining room have a step about a foot wide and of varying height due to the slope of the land.There are three steps up to the front door. There is a step up from the dining room to the sitting room.

Barn Cottage has a king bedroom and a second bedroom with 2 single beds. Bedrooms and the bathroom, with over a P-bath shower, are all upstairs.

Lin and Hay Cottages have each a king and a twin bedroom upstairs.The bathroom with over the bath shower is downstairs.They have French windows to the living room and front doors to the kitchen. Doors and windows are 18cm up from the outside path.

Hen cottage has a super king bedroom with an en suite shower room and also a family twin room next to it. This is accessed both from the super king bedroom and separately from the hall.There is a third twin room.The family bath and shower room is downstairs. The showers have standard shower doors, with roomfor a plastic chair on the standard shower trays. Light switches are 1.2m or lower. Sockets meet regulations.

Stag Cottage has a super king and a twin bedroom, both upstairs.The family shower room is upstairs. Downstairs is a family bath and shower room. The showers have standard shower trays and can take a plastic chair. Lights switches are 1.2m high or below.
